bungy jumping myths busted

Contrary to popular belief, here are the top 5 bungy jumping myths busted:

1.       Bungy jumping does not cause whiplash - maybe if you were attached to a piece of static rope and not a rubber bungy cord.

2.       You cannot get detached retinas when jumping – but be careful to shut your eyes next time you sneeze!

3.       Bungy jumping is not only for the young – put some stretch into that saggy skin (we’ve had golden oldies in their nineties)

4.       Jumping naked is NOT FREE – OMG...would you seriously want to wear a harness after it’s been chaffing a crusty crab-infested crutch?

5.       Bungy jumpers do not vomit mid-air – this practice is usually reserved for skydiving, or big nights out.

You can however shit your pants!!!

Risha Baveja, it's safe to jump at Taupo Bungy

The Taupo Bungy crew thinks you're awesome to still want to bungy after what happened. You have a real grip on real vs. perceived risk.

We'd love to help you tick bungee jumping off your todo list - safely - here at Taupo Bungy! We'll give you a free bungy ... maybe Air New Zealand will give you a free airfare to New Zealand (Whaddaya reckon, Air NZ?)

Check out our top 10 list of why you should come to us:

  1. We have better water - you can even drink it (unlike what we saw in Thailand!)
  2. We are an Australian/NZ standards certified bungy jumping site, with 7 standards-certified jump masters. We get audited every year by Bureau Veritas and a range of other government and quality monitoring agencies.
  3. We give every jumper full instructions before leaving the platform. Not that you can really jump "wrong". (Here's a video of our safety check)
  4. We use purpose-built and specifically designed ankle harnesses - not what you had in Thailand.
  5. We only use our bungy cords 500 times or 6 months - that's just a third of their expected life. We retire all our other gear way too early too.
  6. We make our own bungy cords with trained, qualified jump masters, and we test them with our own crew
  7. Feet first as often as you like! We call it the Peking plummet, and it's unbelievably safe.
  8. We ask so many questions at signup to make sure you're safe.
  9. If you come out of your harness, we will refund your money (Just kidding - you won't come out of your harness)
  10. Our music on the platform pumps! Here's a taste of it.

Hope to see you real soon. Hit us up at jump@taupobungy.co.nz
